Canola Hybrids Results
Canola Hybrid Trial Notes
We seeded canola onto wheat stubble and it was difficult to find moisture when setting the depth. We set the depth at 1.25 inch depth to keep the seed in soil moisture. The first major rain event came a month later. We received 2″ of rain which came down slowly and was able to soak in, allowing for a second flush of germination. The canola came up in 2-3 different stages, which in return made it difficult for staging of chemical applications moving forward. We did see in the range of 20-25% loss due to high winds and environmental challenges including snow.

Seed Depth Results
Canola Seed Depth Trial Notes
Cool, dry conditions at seeding time presented a challenge for this trial. Our goal was to showcase varying seeding depths, but due to the previous 2 yrs of drought we struggled to reach the 3″ depth. The trial did show differences in yields and as you can see the 2″ depth seemed to be the best placement in 2019. This depth allowed for seed to be into and not just on top of moisture.

MES S15 Seed Safety Results
MES Seed Safety Trial Notes
This trial was seeded with a Seed Master drill with 0.75″ knife openers on 12 inch row spacing. Phosphate fertilizer rates ranged from 0 lbs/acre to 200 lbs/acre. The seeding conditions were very dry and presented challenges in setting seeding depth. The yield results for 175 & 200 lbs/ac. were too variable so we did not record this data set.

Harvest Management Results
Harvest Management Trial Notes
When combining the untreated check strip we had to reduce the speed by 0.5 mile/hour. Strips treated with Reglone Ion applied at a higher water volume allowed us to increase speed by 0.5 mile/hour faster. The Reglone Ion treated strip at 20 GPA also fed through faster than any of the strips treated with Roundup Transorb and Heat LQ. Overall, yield results showed minimal, insignificant differences between the treatments.

Invigor Rate Results
InVigor Rate Trial Notes
This trial was replicated as per BASF protocol. We used the TKW for each seed bag starting with A through to D and planted an additional strip at 5 lbs/ac as a standard check. It was seeded on oat stubble and straw management was minimal so we had a thick mat of straw to go through. Coming off of a two year drought this did create some discussion on seeding depth. The Provincial agronomist and myself decided to stick to 1.25″ seeding depth. The first major rain event occurred June 18 with moisture soaking in nicely which resulted in a second wave of germination in all treatments.
A rain/hail event happened July 1 and we waited to assess damage. Though the damage was minimal, we made the decision to spray some Priaxor for blackleg prevention. We later came in with Cotegra fungicide application at 20% bloom stage for protection against sclerotinia. The results were pretty amazing reaching into the low 70 bu/ac mark.
